You’ve likely heard the old saying: If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Well, my life gave me a whole pile of lemons — in the form of two scammy, corrupt fake gurus. So I turned those lemons into delicious Indian recipes. In fact, a whole book full of them!
Â
I call it Curry and Cupcakes — My Silver Lining Cookbook, because when I searched for the silver lining of spending 14 years in a cult, I found one: I learned to cook the most delicious India food you’ve ever tasted — dishes like peas and paneer (you actually need lemons to make paneer!), toor dal, veggie curry, zucchini cupcakes, peach cobbler, and my famous egg-less cheesecake.

Enjoy My Delicious, Healthy, and EASY Indian Dish Recipes!
In Curry and Cupcakes — My Silver Lining Cookbook, I have simplified the often-complex process of making delicious Indian food. There are so many spices, so many steps, so many unrecognizable ingredients. Well, not in my cookbook, because once a week, I had to whip a meal together for 50 to 500 people! There was no time for complicated steps. So I created recipes that minimize effort, while maximizing flavor.
Â
I must have done something right, because even Indian guests at the ashram complimented me on my dishes and asked for the recipes. That’s a huge accomplishment — because Indian cooks are some of the best cooks in the world!
Â
My fellow ashram dwellers also loved my cooking — often rushing to the community dining hall at mealtime when I was in the kitchen! Those are among my best memories of my life in a cult.
Â
Here are just a few of the recipes in Curry and Cupcakes — My Silver Lining Cookbook:
Â
- Peas and paneer
- Sumptuous Toor Dal
- Spicy Toor Dal
- Coconut Veggie Curry
- Veggie Curry with Paneer
- Savory Indian Veggie Patties
- Carrot and Peanut Salad
- Tasty Stir-Fried Chickpeas
- Devi-Fried Rice
- Delightful Zucchini Cupcakes (no eggs!)
- Out-of-this-World Peach Cobbler

This cookbook includes the recipes I created, tested, and improved over the years — delighting hundreds of residents and guests with vegetarian meals such as peas and paneer, a variety of dals, and curries, and my many sweets, like my famous egg-less cheesecake.
Â
I received so many compliments and requests for my recipes over the years that I decided to create this cookbook. What’s more, I experienced so many negative things in the cult, that I want to memorialize the positive aspect of my life there — learning to cook delicious Indian food from the beautiful Indian cooks I met in there in the kitchen.
